The Nebraska series has its floor in the middle of it. The rate bottomed at 0.68 percent in 2020, the lowest of the six readings, then rose in each of the three years after that to reach 1.05 percent in 2023. That leaves it 0.17 points above the 0.88 percent it started from in 2018. That is 17th of 51 on the 2023 rate. The rate rose in 2023. The 2023 reading is the highest of the six years. Across the five year-on-year steps the rate rose three times and fell twice. Of the 47 counties large enough to rank, meaning 500 policies or more in 2023, Box Butte tops the 2023 readings at 2.80 percent, with York next at 2.34 percent, 0.46 points behind. Within that group, top to bottom the 2023 readings cover 2.49 points, with the lowest county at 0.31 percent. In 64 of the 89 counties with a reading in both years, 2023 came in above 2018. No county here reached the national top 100 counties by 2023 rate, a list that starts at 500 policies in force. None of these are policies homeowners gave up. They are policies the insurer chose not to renew once the term ran out, which is what makes the series worth tracking year by year.

Every county in the file

The policy column is the one to check first. The text above ranks only books of 500 policies or more in 2023. 44 counties below sit under it and are printed anyway. Nothing has been removed from the rows themselves, because the small denominators are the explanation rather than an embarrassment.

The notice window

Notice periods before a non-renewal are set by state law and this desk has not yet sourced the Nebraska statute. The states it has checked are on the coverage map. For Nebraska, the department of insurance is the record that governs.
