The Florida file is one of the biggest movers in the set, up 25 places in the national order since 2018. In 2018, 25 jurisdictions carried a higher rate; in 2023, none do, which takes the state from 26th of 51 to 1st. The rate itself climbed from 0.79 percent in 2018 to 2.99 percent in 2023. Ranked by the size of the move since 2018 rather than by the level, it comes 1st of 51. The peak is 2022. The floor of the series is 0.79 percent in 2018. Across the five year-on-year steps the rate rose three times and fell twice. Across the 62 counties with a 2023 book of at least 500 policies, Glades tops the 2023 readings at 16.23 percent, with Highlands next at 9.14 percent, 7.09 points behind. In 2023, 26 of the 67 counties with a reading that year sat above the state rate. In 63 of the 67 counties with a reading in both years, 2023 came in above 2018. Under the 2023 rate sit 53,648 policies the insurer chose not to renew out of 1,796,448 in force, against 10,540 out of 1,341,080 six years earlier, so the count of dropped policies rose over the file while the book behind it grew. This state holds 26 places in the national top 100 counties by 2023 rate, counted from books of at least 500 policies, led by Glades, Highlands, Okeechobee and Hendry. Read every figure above as the insurer walking away at renewal rather than the customer shopping around. Cancellations by homeowners are counted nowhere in the file.
Every county the committee reported is listed here, smallest books included, each with its 2023 policy count. Only those at 500 policies or more feed the named-county claims further up. Five counties below sit under it and are printed anyway. A book that small turns a single lapsed policy into whole percentage points, which is what the policy column is there to show.
